ABSTRACT

Raddery as a school must be understood in the context of Raddery as a community. Raddery aims to be a caring, educational and therapeutic community comprising adults and children. 'Holistic' education has breadth insofar as it embraces every kind of endeavour to engage every facet of the child's life and potential in the educational process. In terms of broad activities, this incorporates at Raddery everything from summer camps, hobbies like cycling and canoeing, to visits abroad — most recently for some of the children to Russia. There have been some changes at Raddery since the Inspectors' visit in 1986 and especially since the review of Raddery undertaken in 1990. Like all schools, Raddery is influenced by the national developments in education. It is possible for a child to move on from Raddery to attend a local school during the day-time.
