ABSTRACT

In general, in warfare what is meant by "defense" refers to knowing oneself. When you know that you do not yet have the strategic power to forge victory, you should solidify your defenses and await the moment when the enemy can be destroyed. If you then send the army forth to assault the enemy, you will always be victorious. A tactical principle from the Art of War states: "One who knows he cannot be victorious assumes a defensive posture."
