ABSTRACT

In general, whenever you mobilize the army to go forth on a punitive campaign to extirpate an enemy and have deeply penetrated their territory, fodder and provisions will be scarce and lacking, so you must segment your troops to forage and plunder. If you occupy the enemy's storehouses and 148granaries and seize his accumulated resources in order to continuously provision your army, you will be victorious. A tactical principle from the Art of War states: "If one relies upon gaining provisions from the enemy, the army's food will be sufficient."
