ABSTRACT

In relation to the understanding of power, inequality, the role of work in society, and a democratic pedagogy of vocational education grounded on social and economic justice, such educators develop a vision of a just and practical government for the new century. Such appreciations constitute an integral part of what might be termed a "worker civics". To help workers, students, and other people around the world understand the emerging role of these multinational corporations, it may be appropriate to characterize such organizations as a new form of government—corporate government. Corporate governments' ability to punish economically is a more powerful tool of domination than the laws deployed by public government. Truly empowered critical workers see through the language of New Age corporatism. They are researchers, knowledge producers, and analysts who realize that real empowerment involves understanding the social context in which work takes place.
