ABSTRACT

This concluding chapter offers a vision for government as it relates to the promotion of good work, economic justice, and a critical vocational education. It explores the role of government in society. The chapter focuses on the new roles must government play in the twenty-first century when the changes wrought by the dramatic expansion of corporate power in the latter part of the twentieth century are given. It explains how critical educators and cultural workers can promote sustainable economic growth and socioeconomic justice both through the construction of progressive government and innovative nongovernmental organizations (NGOs). The chapter also explores how these social, political, and economic dynamics relate to vocational education and the student's transition from school to work. In the post-Fordist globalized economy, the production of knowledge and scientific and intellectual work in general has been steadily appropriated by corporations.
