ABSTRACT
The aesthetic response to art, even one’s philosophy of art, is in part influenced by psychological factors. To illustrate this notion, I offer a brief discussion of the formalism of Roger Fry1 (Chapter 2) and of Roland Barthes’s (Chapter 7) last work on photographyCamera Lucida-from a psychoanalytic perspective.
