ABSTRACT
Shortly after our Labor Day celebrations, the head of the county Educational Affairs Bureau handed me a formal appointment directive. It stated that I was to be a permanent teacher of English at the Second Middle School of our county. Without hesitation, I accepted this directive and said goodbye to all my friends. The Second Middle School is situated about seventy li away from my village in a district called Madeng. I began preparations to leave.
