ABSTRACT

Most contemporary observers believe that the spread of democracy to new countries and the consolidation of democracy within others is important to the prospects for regional and global peace. A wide range of factors in the global system and thus of parameters in International Futures affects forecasts of Chinese power. Almost all observers believe that the spread of democracy to new countries and the consolidation of democracy within others are important to the prospects for regional and global peace. Russia and China pose the most obvious and near-term threats to Western democracies. Russia could undergo still another political change and emerge as a revitalized threat, angry at its loss of empire and perceived humiliation by North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Russia, China, and even some Western democracies look at the overwhelming military superiority of the United States as the real danger.
