ABSTRACT
Bad governments have disfigured the design of God. Natural divisions, the innate spontaneous tendencies of the peoples, will replace the arbitrary divisions sanctioned by bad governments. 'Race' seems to have been one property which Mazzini regarded as distinguishing nations. Sociobiologists argue that the unit of evolution by natural selection is the gene. Nazi racism employs a quite different notion of races from the archaic one we have been looking at. It is a notion of races as distinguished from one another by the distinct and uniform characteristics inherited by their members, with membership of a race determined by the possession of such characteristics. 'The most natural state is one nation, an extended family with one national character. For a nation is as natural a plant as a family, only with more branches. Nothing is more manifestly contrary to the purposes of political government than the unnatural enlargement of states, the wild mixing of various races and nationalities under one sceptre'.
