ABSTRACT
Two classrooms in the same school, similar in student composition and curriculum. Kamehameha Elementary Education Program From the elevated observation deck, visitors watch four classrooms of the transformed vision through one-way glass walls. Typically, schools teach rules, abstractions, and verbal descriptions. They also teach by means of rules, abstractions, and verbal descriptions. In the "educational diversity" research community that studies these students and schools there exists a strong consensus supporting five principles. Nevertheless, the generic principles articulated here can serve as quality standards for all subject matters, benchmarks to gauge the integrity of one's own classroom, and criteria to evaluate any classroom's design. Center for Research on Education, Diversity and Excellence has issued the principles in the form of Five Standards for Effective Pedagogy, with supporting indicators and examples. There is high consistency between these five standards and those issued by other national standards groups, to the extent that they discuss pedagogy.
