ABSTRACT

Sociology constructed in the context of primitive modernization has ignored nature, has emphasized social constructions to the exclusion of nature's constructions, and has thereby contributed to environmental problems by propping up the modern ideology neglectful of nature. Sociology constructed in the context of primitive modernization has ignored nature, has emphasized social constructions to the exclusion of nature's constructions, and has thereby contributed to environmental problems by propping up the modern ideology neglectful of nature. The embodiment of humans has been dealt with in sociology, but often in a very restricted manner, the human body is seen as taken-for-granted, given, physical resource. Sociology continues to be trapped in a sociologistic misunderstanding in which the effects of the processes of nature on society remain uncomprehended. Social constructivism in sociology is a restatement of the nurture side of the old nature/nurture debate in the social sciences. A synthesis of human-agency sociology and social-system sociology is clearly needed to render sociological theory less partial.
