ABSTRACT

As president of the Partido Nacional Antireeleccionista, Francisco I. Madero wrote his Plan de San Luis Potosi in San Antonio, Texas, in 1910. Madero had fled from Mexico to Texas when, at the time of the 1910 elections, President Porfirio Diaz had had him jailed. The police assassinated Serdan and several of his co-conspirators. Nevertheless, the Plan de San Luis Potosi inspired people from a wide range of circumstances throughout the country to take up arms against the Diaz government. The Mexican people succeeded in supporting this party, and, responding to the call that it made, sent representatives to a Convention in which the National Democratic Party was also represented, which also represented the will of the people. Said Convention designated candidates for the presidency and vice-presidency of the Republic, with said nominations falling to Mister Francisco Vazquez Gomez and myself, as vice-president and president, respectively.
