ABSTRACT
This chapter deals with a complex assortment of subjects. It is organized as a sequence of connected categories of interstate relations and transnational phenomena and the related state and transnational actors and their policies. The progression begins with the strategies and actions of external states to help develop Latin American nations. Business enterprises and multinational corporations are then taken up, followed by economic policies and interactions concerning trade, investment, debt, and expropriations. International environmental concerns are addressed, including their connection to economic development. A shift is made to the subject of Latin American political regime types and related phenomena as matters of foreign policy and international interactions. The category of transnational networks follows, which includes the Roman Catholic Church, Protestant churches, labor movements, and political party associations. Finally, the chapter deals with three categories of intersocietal relations: the movement of people, cultural relations, and the drug traffic.
