ABSTRACT

The notion of information, itself a part of science’s own understanding of nature, allows logically for distinct kinds of being and grades of value within what, from a purely physicalist perspective, may seem to be an unbroken continuum of atoms or natural history. Religion becomes more an ongoing voyage of discovery than one of recovery. Theology too acquires a new vitality while abiding with unfeigned intellectual honesty alongside of and in concert with the evolutionary discoveries of modern science. A biblically inspired vision of the future provides a most suitable framework for both evolutionary science and the religious quest for meaning. In contrast to materialist evolutionism, the classical hierarchical metaphysics could easily uphold the superior ontological status of life and mind. It thereby corresponded more closely with common human experience and with the basic assumptions on which most cultures and legal systems are based.
