ABSTRACT

Popular media such as newspapers and magazines frequently use graphics to report the distribution of results in some form of picture-a chart or graph instead of (or in addition to) reporting the relevant numbers. The purpose of these graphic displays is primarily to convey important characteristics more effectively than a verbal description or table of numbers would be able to do. The use of graphics has increased markedly in the past decade, primarily because of the ease of constructing and printing graphs and charts with widely available computer programs.
