ABSTRACT

The Japanese government appeared reluctant to send a medical team, however, perhaps out of deference to the United States (US) government. The decision had been made to send medical specialists to the US, but this was just the beginning of the task. The minister of health and welfare had announced that the medical team would go to the United States as a function of the Radiation Effects Research Foundation, which was now under the jurisdiction of the ministry. In Los Angeles, the local Japanese American medical association provided extensive cooperation and the facilities of City View Hospital were made available. The official medical report revealed one case of uterine cancer and one case of heart disease in Los Angeles.
