ABSTRACT
This chapter presents the different ways in which, in Celebrity Studies, the metaphor of religion is used. The notion of the sacred self is used as a way to situate ideas of Celebrity Worship. The idea that celebrities are gods, or that there is a formal religious cult of celebrity, is dismissed. In its place, the idea of the self as ultimate concern and a sacred project is suggested.
