ABSTRACT
Celebrity as part of the project of the ‘self’ in contemporary culture is discussed. The self as a sacred endeavour is explored through lifestyle television and celebrity figures including Oprah Winfrey, Nigella Lawson and Martha Stewart. The connection between Celebrity Studies and religion is pursued through the notion of the self as ultimate concern.
