ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on Local Models for Integration in each Country. It consists of Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and United Kingdom. In Belgium, the Leuven Integration through System Approach aims to bridge the gap between the schools of ordinary and special education through the cooperation and functional integration of both systems and to focus on the positive role of special education within this integration process to find the most favourable conditions for the integration of disabled persons in ordinary education. The Luxembourg project is taking place within the framework of the national institute for visually-handicapped people, responsible to the Ministry of Education and Youth. This institute aims to assist blind or partially sighted people of all ages in early pre-school, school and further education in vocational training and in professional and social integration.
