ABSTRACT
Many students have done historical papers or honors theses in art history, and certainly narrowing the topic based upon literature reviews is important. There are, however, many other possibilities for original work, including oral histories and articles about local and regional artists, local galleries and museums, visiting contemporary artists, and their studios. The process for such research is reviewed and contextualized for the undergraduate with examples. Case studies and sample abstracts are outlined.
