ABSTRACT
The results and discussion chapters are the most important in a dissertation as it is here that new knowledge is presented. The first step the student needs to take is to decide which results are the most important and which to include. The chapter presents some criteria for making these decisions. Qualitative and quantitative dissertations tend to differ in terms of organisation of the results. Quantitative results tend to include a lot of tables and the discussion of results usually occurs in a separate chapter. In qualitative dissertations the organisation is more fluid and the writer may combine the results and discussion into one chapter. The discussion chapter seeks to relate the findings to the literature in the field. It is vitally important in these chapters that the research questions are explicitly answered. Advice for describing the limitations of the study is included in this chapter. Assessment criteria for these chapters are presented.
