ABSTRACT

In Act II, Chapter 3, Torrie Allen's career narrative identifies factors that advanced his career, as well as barriers he faced in the pursuit of an executive career in opera. As a Black male opera executive in a town where more than half, 59%, of the residents are White and the first Black opera executive to manage in the circumpolar north, Mr. Allen shared insights about how one might successfully thrive in an executive opera career. As the only respondent in the book who actively mentors the next generation of arts managers, he also provided a remarkable philosophy on the importance of good mentorship in Arts Management.
