ABSTRACT

As the only female of color opera executive in the U.S., Ms. Jackson is the only respondent poised to discuss the impacts of intersectionality, specifically race and gender, on a person's career. Act V, Chapter 6 presents Linda Jackson's career narrative, which includes a discussion of the factors that advanced her career, as well as the barriers that impeded her career. Divergent to expected thought, she did not see her race as much of a barrier as her gender. In one story, she detailed feeling unheard by the board specifically because of her gender. Her career narrative will have special resonance with female Arts Management students because she details strategies one can use to navigate perceived barriers related to both race and gender.
