ABSTRACT

Throughout your writing, you will refer to others’ words, phrases, and ideas, and we are all obligated to give credit to those who have come up with these words and ideas by referencing the source of the material. These references also provide authority and weight to your arguments, providing justifications for your points to persuade the reader or marker that your analysis is robust. This chapter will take you through correct referencing using the OSCOLA system of referencing, the citation system that is used by most UK higher education institutions. It will also, with the aid of worked examples, help you correctly quote and paraphrase these words and ideas.
