Being successful in a live contemporary music situation is more than simply the ability to play and write songs. Successful practitioners are also skilled in the art of stagecraft. There is a method to creating a successful live performance. Regardless of the genre or whether it’s a stadium concert in front of thousands or a small pub gig in front of dozens, certain things must take place. Festivals are special events that combine multiple musical performances under a particular banner. This banner might be via a genre, such as the Wacken heavy metal Festival in German, the Newport Jazz Festival, or the Montebello Rock festival in Canada. The producers also need to organise backline. Backline can be the most expensive part of a performance, but they’re absolutely essential. Performances are typically in foreign languages, and students have to crane their head to read the surtitles if they want to have a hope of knowing what’s going on.
