ABSTRACT
Since sound and picture can be divorced at will, film presents an unequalled opportunity for unusual composite effects, or, as in music, the play of point and counterpoint. Think of the camera as one instrument, the sound recorder as another. As long as they stay in the same key, each can carry a different melodic line. The result can be far more absorbing than if they both carry the same tune.
