ABSTRACT

In the beginning, the leading character needs something, wants something, or is under a compulsion to do something (these are all facets of the same stone)—something usually out of the or dinary, at least for him. His needs may be physical, social, profes sional, or personal. They may be selfish or altruistic. To satisfy any one of these needs he sets a goal-to reach that goal he must make some decisions. Our beginning usually ends with his first decision, and its establishment may require a minute or two, or half an hour.
