ABSTRACT

Postediting is the time for mental convalescence. Major cutting is completed and the director can once more view the world through unguarded eyes. He can repair relationships that have become strained during production, reestablish friendships with members of the crew, and become reacquainted with his family. His job now consists of benign supervision, since the actual work is in the hands of experts whose contributions are largely dictated by the now-established form of the film. At this stage, many directors fade out of the scene, but the conscientious filmmaker will want to keep a measure of control to the bitter end.
