The previous chapters have examined the industrial processes of TV development. But what many readers want to know is: what’s it really like? This chapter explores the culture of Hollywood and the culture of the TV development sector of the entertainment industry. In practice, TV development supports a surprisingly professional and collegial culture. Integrity is essential for long careers. That said, the TV industry in Hollywood behaves in many ways like a big, exclusive club. To work in TV development, to be able to pitch ideas to networks, people need entrée to that exclusive club. The next chapter talks about strategies to get through the club’s well-guarded gates.
