ABSTRACT

There are more networks developing more scripted series than ever before. Television is a booming business today, creating more jobs and creative opportunities for writers, development executives and talent agents than ever before. The distribution of TV is being disrupted, but for the most part the development of TV is not. It’s still about material, finding great ideas and developing them into scripts, the blueprints of new series. While the past 20 years has seen a trend toward darker, more mature, more cynical programming content, the success of This is Us in 2016 marked a turn toward brighter, warmer and more hopeful fare. The second notable trend in TV today is inclusion. More people of diverse backgrounds are seen on screen, given senior executive positions at networks and given voice as TV creators than ever before.
