ABSTRACT

The supply chain is a quest for excellence based on value analysis (VA). In general, the operative expenses of a hospital should be around 60%. Hospital supply-chain expenses are around 40%. Supply chain committees at the local level are powerless, and even if they meet the decision, they need to go to regional and national levels. VA is centered on evidence-based criteria from physician and organizational input, which in turn support or deny the purchase of new technology. Physicians need to have transparent associations with the company, showing that they want the product for the good of all and not because they have connections with the company. Physicians need to provide input to the steering committee by looking into material management purchasing and then product implementation, with the supervision of the purchaser by the board.
