ABSTRACT

This chapter attempts to consider the compatibility of Western and Eastern parenting styles to give the reader an idea of which is more suitable for his or her child. Owing to the breadth of studies in these areas, only parenting outcomes are chosen for discussion. Each outcome is concluded with a learning comment. A little theory on attribution serves to organise the thoughts for this chapter. To broaden the comparison, parenting styles as perceived by parents and children are included. A little twist to the chapter involves snippets on immigrant parenting, consequences of punishment, and young versus older parents.
