ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the roles of the significant others (for example, a nanny, grandparent, or maid), and discusses whether they make a difference to the parenting provided by the child’s parents. Examples of such childcare in different countries and cultures are added to enrich the discussion. The chapter ends with a summary of the pros and cons of using the significant others to help parent one’s children.
