ABSTRACT

Since politics with its institutions is “ethical” and ethical Life can only be understood starting from the religious spirit, politics and the religious spirit, even when secularised, are in a structural relationship. The religious spirit is not only a representative symbolisation of truth but also a concrete bond, an ethische Gesinnung. In Christianity and a symbolic-philosophical reading of its meaning, Hegel finds the key to thinking about the infinite in the finite: the presence of the spiritual even in a barren reality marred by evil and contingency. In Christianity, the absolute experiences death and is resurrected: it remains and finds itself once again in supreme negativity. In this sense, the incarnation of God in the Son and his death humanise God, bringing his sacrality into the world and closer to man.
