ABSTRACT

Body Worlds exhibitions display flayed and posed cadavers of humans and other animals preserved through a proprietary plastination process. Viewed by millions worldwide, these installations often generate controversy in their wakes. This chapter focuses on two of Body Worlds’ travelling exhibitions that visited Canada: Body Worlds and The Story of the Heart and Body Worlds: Animal Inside Out. The authors discuss the goals for these exhibitions and how they came to be at their respective institutions, alongside an analysis of controversies that have swirled around the Body Worlds brand.
