ABSTRACT

This chapter reports on visiting publics’ experiences across the four international case study exhibitions presented earlier in the book. Through a cross-case analysis, the authors explore how visitors engaged with these installations that approach controversy and use a range of science communication models and strategies. Although each case study is particular to its own socio-cultural context, six themes emerged across cases that help us capture and understand visitor engagement. These themes speak to visitors connecting emotionally, questioning and challenging, building knowledge, storying, listening and talking, and developing agency.
