ABSTRACT

A Question of Truth, a Canadian permanent exhibition produced by the Ontario Science Centre, reflects the critical and agential emphases of fourth generation science museums. In stark contrast to unequivocal representations of scientific ‘truth’, this exhibit frames science as a human social activity located within particular cultural and political world views. Furthermore, notions of bias are examined through the history and practice of science. The chapter describes the exhibition, its origins and goals, and concludes with a discussion of the ways it engages with controversy. Throughout, museum staff voices tell powerful stories embedded in the production and consumption of this installation.
