ABSTRACT

The innovative Brazilian exhibit Preventing Youth Pregnancy delves into the sensitive issues of sexual practices and associated risks, unexpected teen pregnancies and modes of prevention. Using the fictional scenario of a party, the exhibit invites young visitors to dramatize, make decisions, imagine possible futures, and, lastly, participate in a group conversation which is facilitated by a sex educator. In this chapter the authors describe the exhibit’s history, features, and goals, and reflect on the ways in which it engaged with controversy – primarily through challenges and tensions experienced among different institutions involved in its production.
