ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author focuses on the primary anthropological text used in Christian theology: ‘Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness”’ (Genesis 1,26). Since God reveals himself as creator, humankind is created to be creators as well, to be created co-creators. This is what the author calls the ‘theomorphic quality’ of humans, the human ability to mimic God while creating art and technology and shaping the world we live in. Based on analyses of world-building games like Godus, Minecraft and Black & White and series like The Sims, the author argues that this theomorphic quality can especially be located within these types of game.
