ABSTRACT
In the concluding chapter of this commentary on The Sorrows of Mattidia, the author examines the role played by a woman, Sylvia of Aquitaine, in the proliferation of this romance. Hutt attempts to piece together details about Sylvia’s life and speculates why this story would have been of interest to her and other powerful, influential Christian women like Melania the Elder.
