ABSTRACT

A suffix (un suffisso) is a letter or group of letters added to the end of a word. It may change the meaning of the source word or merely modify it, e.g. friend, friend ship , friend less ; green, green ish . In Italian, suffixes are a part of everyday conversation as well as mainly informal writing. They are more common and creatively used than in English to express different emotions and points of view. As a result there are rarely exact equivalents between the two languages.
