ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces some of the Lean tools it is best to start with when a Lean vision is to be implemented. The chairperson must ensure a good and efficient conduct of the meeting. It is important that all participants can make themselves heard. There must be a good atmosphere making everyone feel comfortable and wanting to bring out ideas and improvement suggestions. The improvement wheel helps improve standards and work processes. Spin the wheel several times, for each time there is an improvement of the standard. Value stream mapping is a mapping of all process steps, both value-adding and non-value-adding. The purpose is to create a common understanding of the current situation and to spot waste so that it can be removed. In Lean language, a walk in the production is called to “Go Gemba”. Total Productive Maintenance method comprises preventive maintenance with the purpose of avoiding waste, stops and defects.
