ABSTRACT

The last part of the book, Epilogue, Explications and ellipses, after emphasising the plurality of conceptualisations of ageing in today’s cultural narratives and age studies, makes a case for the importance of later life as a valued time in our lives. Following a short summary of the book’s main arguments, the concluding section emphasises the vital role of the self-making to the end and highlights the role of the awareness of death and the vulnerability of the body as the essential features of later life. The final remarks imply that the quality of later life also depends on institutional resources, provision and intervention.
