ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book adds to the discussions by taking a very comprehensive approach to extinction risks. It introduces singular chains of event scenarios. These scenarios are composed of many events, some of which might be extinction-level events, which at the end humans are unable to navigate to prevent their extinction. The book promotes a commitment to the well-being of future generations. It presents a dozen perpetual obligations that, it is argued, every generation should strive to meet. The book also presents a six-level action framework that suggests levels of effort needed to be expended to meet perpetual obligations depending on the seriousness of the situation. The Intergenerational Panel on Perpetual Obligations will provide humanity with inputs about how well humanity is meeting its perpetual obligations. The book argues that various essential aspects of human society need revolutionary changes to help ensure our journey.
