ABSTRACT
In Chapter 6, the reader prepares for planning and implementing a Family Intervention Session. This session creates an opportunity for the assessor to observe the family in action and facilitate a new experience, informed by the tentative case conceptualization. The experience is designed to support the continued refinement of a revised family narrative and to see how receptive the parents may be to it. The goals of the session and how to prepare for the family intervention are presented. Examples of Family Intervention Sessions from published case studies are provided. Activities that have been found to be useful in these sessions are then described, organized by level of intensity/engagement. Guidance is offered on how to choose and plan for the level of intervention likely to be a good fit for a family. Steps for implementing family interventions are then provided, as well as ideas for trouble-shooting. The chapter concludes by returning to the case study being followed across chapters.
