ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 reviews personal background influences on well-being, given the regional influences. The background includes the gender, age, year of study, family income, dating status, siblings, and college status and size of the Chinese college student. Among them, the year of study showed a weak positive contribution to overall perceptual well-being. The other significant effects from gender, dating status, and family income were weaker. Besides these, the greatest difference happened in the higher happiness in the female than in the male student. The next strongest effect was the contribution of family income to depression. Family income also displayed negative effects on overall perceptual well-being and all its components.
