ABSTRACT

In this chapter I examine the Gestalt Cycle of Experience, which is considered by many to be a primary orienting framework for all forms of Gestalt-based practice, including coaching. It is typically represented as a staged process or a continuous flow, following a wave-like rhythmic pattern. I highlight the meaning of each of the stages: sensation, awareness, mobilisation of energy, action, contact, and assimilation of learning. In addition, I outline the psychological and emotional characteristics and common blockages at each stage.
