ABSTRACT

The Gestalt coach has what Zinker (1994) called ‘the permission to be creative’. Experiments are one of Gestalt’s core methods for expanding awareness through experiential discovery. Early Gestalt practitioners incorporated creative experimentation and improvisation into Gestalt therapy, and it has been a hallmark of all forms of Gestalt practice ever since. In this section of the book I present three interconnected chapters, beginning with an outline of what’s meant by experimentation in Gestalt, followed by a chapter on individually focused experiments and another focused on experimentation in group and team contexts.
