ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses the livelihood changes of the villagers in question within the rise of the ITP sector. It demonstrates that the affected villagers in Guangxi are not displaced during the massive changes in land-use and land control. Moreover, this chapter shows that those villagers tend to have diverse livelihood changes due to their distinct resource endowments and different livelihood strategies: some of the villagers are dispossessed while others are maintaining and even expanding their livelihoods. By doing so, it argues that examining what and how much have been left to villagers under specific institutional settings is equally important as analysing what and how much has been taken.
