ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the interventions available to BIT/CARE teams. These interventions are based on an objective risk rubric. The section on wellness checks includes advice for on-campus and off-campus checks and law enforcement involvement, including a checklist for use during the check. The necessity of working with parents and emergency contacts is explored. There is a discussion of mandated assessment and the different types of assessment. This is followed by an exploration of mandated treatment and the benefits and pitfalls of this type of treatment. This is followed by sections on applying the conduct and discipline process, offering accommodations and IEPs and working with school resource officers and law enforcement. Case studies are used throughout to clarify the material.
